Our Holiday Party

Matt snapped this on his way to work last Monday. Sadly, it rained last night and we lost most of these huge drifts.

We held our holiday party in the store this year and all slowly got drunk and left the front door open and misrang up the customers.

Michel Rabagliati (in the foreground) talks to Helene Brousseau. Jeff from Lavender Diamond (in background) hung around a couple of days in Montreal with his girlfriend Emily and came out to the party. They said they were hoping for Montreal celebrity sightings while here--Celine Dion, Leonard Cohen, The Arcade Fire.

In the middle of a snowstorm

They say it's the biggest storm in Montreal in 10 years but we still had a big turnout for Lavender Diamond. They played for an hour to a packed house.

Lavender Diamond instore

On Sunday December 16th at 2pm, Lavender Diamond will stop by the D+Q store and play a short acoustic set. Please come on down and browse our new stock while listening to the dulcet tones of Becky Stark and her boys. {Please note that the time has changed--I said 4pm before but now it's 2pm--feel free to call to confirm 514 279 2224.}

Our in-store sales Top Ten

While many folks think of it as just a D+Q store we do in fact carry deep catalogs for other local publishers, our favorite comics comrades, and a wide selection of fiction, non-fiction, and art books. Perhaps surprisingly or perhaps not many D+Q books are our top sellers. Here's our current breakdown:

10. White Rapids by Pascal Blanchet

9. Exit Wounds by Rutu Modan

8. Exhibition Guide by Chris Ware

7. 365 Days by Julie Doucet

6. Moomin: Book Two by Tove Jansson

5. Louis Riel by Chester Brown

4. The Great Hopeful Someday by Elisabeth Belliveau

3. The Night Life of Trees by Bhajju Shyam, Durga Bai, and Ram Singh Urveti

2. Moomin: Book One by Tove Jansson

1. Shortcomings by Adrian Tomine

It brings a tear to her eye

At the Friday night launch for her new book, 365 Days, Julie Doucet has to take a seat because she is so moved by the turnout.

Can you tell me a bit about your staff?

This is Claudia. She used to intern at the office for a while before she transferred to the store. When she was little her parents ran a bookstore in another Montreal neighborhood. At a young age she wrote an impassioned fan letter to Dan Clowes. She desperately hopes that he will visit the store someday.

Here is a picture of our other full-time salesperson, Matt. He will likely ask me to take this down any minute now so drink it in while you can. I didn't even know he was in a band. {edited for classiness.}

But when are you open?
