Last night's book launch for Matt Forsythe's new D+Q book Ojingogo was a HUGE success. Tons of folks from the comics and animation communities came out as well as many a curious passerby. Good job, Matt! And excellent job 211 Bernard staffers!!

In a post inventory order frenzy we have many new titles of interest. I have put aside a few titles to share with the blog-o-sphere 211:

Or universe, perhaps? Hard to say when you're talking about Matthew Forsythe, a locally celebrate web comic, whose work manages to span languages, ages and certainly worlds.
We here at 211 Bernard are very excited to be the bearers of the news that Matthew's latest incarnation is the highly anticipated D+Q book, Ojingogo, which will gather together his dreamy creatures and unique style of narration into our very own Drawn & Quarterly Petits Livres!
If you'd like to see for yourself what the fuss is all about, (and we know you do!) then come out to the Librairie Drawn & Quarterly next Wednesday, the 27th of August, for a night of storytelling and signing. Festivities commence at 7:30p.m., and at 8p.m., Matthew himself will give the partygoers an extra-special treat by talking about his artistic process, use of language in the book, and why he likes squids so much.

And who was one of our first customers? Why it's Frederick Schodt (Manga! Manga!: The World of Japanese Comics and Dreamland Japan: Writings on Modern Manga) and his wife Fiammetta. They were in town briefly and stopped by the store to check out our understocked Astro Boy section. Fred, we're getting the other 13 volumes, I swear!

These past 4 days for us here at the D+Q storefront have been filled with a longer-than-expected inventory count, so we do apologize profusely if any of you had that 211 itch and you were not able to get it scratched. However, we are really excited to re-open tomorrow with a more profound knowledge and understanding of each and every book in this fine store.
I for one am personally really excited about our new system, as it means we will be able to do even more special ordering, offer customers points and lots of other fun things for our beloved patrons. Pulling everything off the shelves and re-entering them into our computer was quite an experience. Over 6,000 items were moved about! However, I think I should give the photos we took of the 4 days and nights we spent here a chance to speak for themselves.
Although it looks rather chaotic, I think the book the most prominent in this photo is rather apropos - on our way to happy living!  Julien, one of our amazing employees, takes a much needed dinner break, and looks rather dashing doing so, wouldn't you say?
 Here's Rory, Alexa, and myself, also on said dinner break. One of us looks a wee too strung-out and less dashing, to put it mildly - can you pick them out?

Or, better yet, in tandem with these photos, I leave you with the fine description of our time here to Alexa, the sister of Rory, who is visiting this week and did an incredible job helping out: So it is late Thursday afternoon, and finally we have got the store in some kind of order. Late work nights, we have all been crazy at getting things back to normal, normal being somewhat strange anyways. All of us extremely pleased that the new system is going to be up and running. Today, the last day of Drawn & Quarterly being closed to the public. Helping out has been a blast, and everyone here is so awesome, I consider all the people my friends. I am glad I was able to enjoy everyone and their company as well as give an extra helping hand. Good luck Drawn & Quarterly. Sincerely, Small blonde girl named Alexa. An important note to all of our lovely and amazing patrons: we'll be closing the store this Monday through Thursday! We'll be getting a hot makeover (we're not divulging any more information, let's keep it somehwhat mysterious) that'll definitely make the D&Q experience even more sensational than it already is. I just finished the first volume of Nicole Georges' Invincible Summer anthology and I didn't want it to end. It's such a perfect lighthearted, girly summer read.
You may remember that I picked up the second volume at Little Otsu a few months ago and fell under the charm of Nicole's granny-chic fashion sense and love of vegan cuisine. The first volume contains more musings about transitory moments of inspirational joy, heartfelt rants about animal rights and even a few vegan recipes, wrapped in a DIY aesthetic that fans of John Porcellino will love.
I can't think of a more perfect mid-summer gift for a hip, artsy teenage girl than Nicole Georges's Invincible Summer and Daniel Clowes' Ghost World.
