“Reading a comic book suddenly becomes as rewarding as reading good contemporary fiction... Tomine has both talent and a writer’s eye for the truth.” — Nick Hornby, THE NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW
With a deft and romantic touch, Tomine portrays the emotional lives of drifting, urban twenty-somethings in stunning black and white. His fans accuse him of eavesdropping on their most intimate moments, revealing truth with forensic detachment and surprising compassion. One of the best known cartoonists is still one of the youngest. At only 29 Tomine has been producing his OPTIC NERVE series for over twelve years. His stories gained national attention, defining in alternative comics a new Gen X sensibility. Tomine lives in Berkeley where he writes OPTIC NERVE and contributes illustrations to magazines like ESQUIRE, THE NEW YORKER, and DETAILS.
