Drawn & Quarterly has acquired world rights to Mooncop, the new graphic novel by cartoonist Tom Gauld. Mooncop looks to the future with a colonized Moon and a dutiful policeman taking care of his sector complete with a daily stop at the shop, Lunar Donuts. With Gauld’s signature deadpan humour, we see everything slowly unravel.

“Tom Gauld is a singular voice. His characters are all low-key citizens who are just waking up to the fact that everything around them is not working as hoped. They meet this disappointment with resignation rather than dread which is what makes every Gauld comic surprisingly moving AND funny,” said Tom Devlin Acquiring Editor.  “His comics are beautiful solid structures designed to stand the test of time--unlike every house, castle, robot, and computer in those same comics.”

Mooncop will be distributed in the United States by Farrar, Straus & Giroux, in Canada by Raincoast Books, and in the United Kingdom by Publishers Group UK. International rights are represented by Samantha Haywood of the Transatlantic Literary Agency

Gauld is the cartoonist of Goliath and You're All Just Jealous of My Jetpack. He draws a weekly cartoon for the Guardian and contributes to the New Yorker and the New York Times Magazine. Born in Scotland, he lives and works in London.
