D+Q 25 PR: Do Not Disturb My Waking Dream by Laura Park
D+Q announces Laura Park’s Do Not Disturb My Waking Dream
Drawn & Quarterly has acquired world rights to Chicago-based cartoonist Laura Park’s much anticipated debut graphic novel, Do Not Disturb My Waking Dream. Acquiring editor is Tom Devlin.
“Laura Park is a good old fashioned power drawer. She can draw anything and is one of those rare people who can actually crosshatch,” Executive Editor Tom Devlin raved. “As anyone who has seen her sketchbooks can corroborate, Laura is able to dig deep into her mental and physical pain and turn that into some of the scariest, saddest, and most beautiful drawings around."
Do Not Disturb My Waking Dream is Park’s first full-length book— a collection that details her hopes, dreams, desires, and fear in darkly funny comics and sketchbook drawings. With Do Not Disturb, a self-lacerating and darkly funny storyteller emerges: Park’s raw, penetrating drawings masterfully show a vital soul in torment. Park’s comics have won her an Ignatz Award and been nominated for the Eisner Award.
Do Not Disturb My Waking Dream will be distributed in the United States by Farrar, Straus & Giroux, in Canada by Raincoast Books, and in the United Kingdom by Publishers Group UK. International rights are represented by Samantha Haywood of the Transatlantic Literary Agency.
