'August' and 'Autoptic' are kind of similar-looking words, maybe if you squint a little, and they go hand-in-hand: Autoptic is happening in Minneapolis this weekend, Saturday August 8th (10am-6pm) and Sunday, August 9th (11am-6pm). The two day festival of independent culture takes place at Aria, 105 N. 1st Street, where you'll find Anders Nilsen, Jillian Tamaki, and Marc Bell! All three come to Autoptic straight from their week-long residency at Pierre Feuille Ciseaux* (more about that below) and ready to say hello! The festival is free to attend so no excuses, Minneapolis. Heres what's happening:

Kick-start your Autoptic tonight, Wednesday August 5th, at 6:30pm, with a reception for the festival's French and francophone artists at the Alliance Française's Grande Salle (113 N. 1st Street). There will be a panel discussion and meet-and-greet with a number of accomplished visual artists from both sides of the Atlantic, including Autoptic organizer Anders Nilsen. Here's the Facebook event with all of the details.

The party starts as soon as the weekend does, on Friday, August 7th at 7pm, with the opening reception of Nothing Will Ever Be The Same, a group show featuring original artwork by Charles Burns, Aidan Koch, Antoine Marchalot, Helge Reunmann, and Laura Park, as well as a small solo exhibit of work by Dominique Goblet. It's curated by Anders Nilsen and is the festival's official kick-off party. Here's the Facebook event

*Pierre Feuille Ciseaux is an international artists's residency currently taking place July 30th-August 7th in Minneapolis at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Anders Nilsen, Marc Bell, and Jillian Tamaki are there now with seventeen other artists, and all twenty are collaborating on an artists' book and a narrative comics poster. If you're interested in getting your copy of what's sure to be an amazing work, the book will be available through Kickstarterwhere they are still trying to raise whatever they can to ensure PFC continues (as it should!)
