Lynda Barry: Everything Part II!
In 2014, Adam Baumgold Gallery presented Everything: Part I, Lynda Barry's first ever New York solo show (I know! We'd been waiting a long time, too). It was a great success, featuring over eighty original comic drawings, watercolours, and mixed media collages from the past 35 years. Now, Lynda returns to the gallery with Everything: Part II, which features another eighty original works, including material from Two Sisters Comeek, Girls and Boys, Big Ideas, The Fun House, One! Hundred! Demons!, Picture This, and her latest, Syllabus! Also on display will be many of Lynda Barry’s comic drawings that were published in Raw, The Village Voice, Esquire, Newsweek, The New York Times, and more. The exhibition features Lynda Barry’s memorable introduction to The Best American Comics 2008, which she edited. These colorful drawings are an ode to her favorite cartoonist Bill Keane, and explore why comics have an endless fascination for us. She describes how: “Comics are a place to go. They gave me a ‘meanwhile’ and an ‘elsewhere’.”
Everything: Part II opens tomorrow, Saturday September 12th, and you're invited to the opening reception from 5-7pm. Lynda Barry is going to be there, people! Now's your chance to congratulate her and thank her for making some of your favourite comics around. Adam Baumgold Gallery is located at 60 East 66th Street and is open Tuesdays through Saturdays 11am-5:30 pm. The exhibit runs until October 31st, so even if you can't make tomorrow's vernissage, a trip to New York this fall is in order!
