Adrian Tomine's cover for the October 19th New Yorker

We have a few fun things going on this fine autumnal weekend. Adrian Tomine is en route to Austin, Texas, where Matt Bucher will lead Adrian in a conversation with the one and only Jonathan Lethem tomorrow morning. The talk takes place Saturday October 17th, from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm, at The Sanctuary at First United Methodist Church (1201 Lavaca Street). This event will be followed by a signing.

For those of us unable to attend, I offer the consolation prize of this amazing New Yorker cover and brief interview with Adrian. Adrian's started teasing these on instagram as he works on them, so we have the chance to see them transform before our eyes. But still! Each time a new cover is revealed, I find myself delighted and charmed anew.

Craig Thompson's BLANKETS

Minnwhile in Minnesota, the Twin Cities Book Festival is a free day-long festival on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in Saint Paul, running from 10 am to 5 pm. At 1:30 pm, Craig Thompson will be giving a presentation that reveals his artistic journey as an author, from book to book. This takes place at the Fine Arts Center on the Rain Stage, and will be followed by a signing.

And from 3 to 4 pm, D+Q cartoonist and Minneapolis resident Anders Nilsen will be signing copies of Poetry Is Useless. You can find him in the festival Author Hub. Bring him a single word while he’s drawing there, and he’ll use that as the inpsiration for an original word balloon poem-artwork for you on the spot.

What more could you be waiting for? Get thee to a book festival, friends!
