Every year participating comic book shops around North America partner with Diamond Comics Distributors to give away FREE comic books from a variety of publishers, including yours truly.

Free Comic Book Day falls on the first Saturday of every May, which means that this year, this holiest of days will fall on Saturday, May 6th, 2017.

We’re very excited to reveal not one, but TWO Drawn & Quarterly #FCBD offerings! The first is a sampler of two upcoming, politically-minded D+Q releases in translation Hostage by Guy Delisle (out in May!) and Poppies of Iraq (by Brigitte Findakly and Lewis Trondheim) out this fall. The first selection, from Hostage, describes firsthand the trials and tribulations of Doctors Without Borders administrator Christophe André who was held captive for over 100 days in the Caucasus region in 1997. The second half of the sampler is written and drawn by Brigitte Findakly & Lewis Trondheim (respectively). Poppies of Iraq is an account of Findakly’s relationship with her homeland Iraq, detailing memories of her childhood and adolescence during Saddam Hussein’s regime and her family's eventual decision to move to France.

Our second FCBD book will come from D+Q's Enfant imprint, and will focus on our most celebrated children's authors and illustrators. It will have selections from Shigeru Mizuki's Kitaro, Anouk Ricard's Anna & Froga, and Tove Jansson's Moomin and the Brigands, but taking the spotlight in this collection will be Elise Gravel's upcoming Spring book If Found...Please Return to Elise Gravel. This delightful sampler will offer readers activity pages and a sneak peek into her sketchbook, where colorful monsters, imaginary friends, and many a grumpy thing reign supreme.

Get ready for two brilliant samplers of great upcoming D+Q titles! And make sure to head to your nearest participating bookstore on May 6th to participate in the Free Comic Book day madness.
