The Moomins and the Great Flood

There are few things more delightful than a new Moomin book, and today a new reissue is making its way to stores! The Moomins and the Great Flood, Tove Jansson’s first Moomin story, is an illustrated novella. Even without as many pictures as we’re used to from the Moomin comics, Jansson’s whimsical and exciting voice shines.

While the Moomins are much the same as the later iterations that we’re more familiar with, apart from their longer, thinner noses, we do meet many characters who appear only in Flood. My favorite is Tulippa, a blue-haired girl who lives inside the tulip that the Moomins use to light their path. Tulippa joins the Moomins on their quest to find Moominpappa.

Equally adorable is when the Moomins come across a basket of kittens who are riding a chair as a boat through the flood.

And the sight of Moomintroll taking a ride on the back of a stork.

Needless to say, the Moomins have quite the adventure! The Moomins and the Great Flood is an enthralling read for Moomin readers both young and old and it’s available now at your local bookstore or comic shop.
