“EW Reviews BLANKETS” / Entertainment Weekly / TOM RUSSO / September 5, 2003

A 582-page autobiographical graphic album would seem to be an awful lot of navel gazing for, you know, a comic book. But credit writer-artist Craig Thompson, 27, for infusing his bittersweet tale of childhood psyche bruising, junior Christian angst, and adolescent first love with a lyricism so engaging, the pages fly right by. Snippets of Thompson’s dialogue can feel mannered, but when he recalls the end of a visit with his long-distance girlfriend by wordlessly picturing his ride home plunging off the edge of the earth, it’s virtual poetry.
