“2019 Excellence in Graphic Literature Award Winners Announced at Denver Pop Culture Con” / Multivresity Comics / Kerry Erlanger / June 2, 2019

The winners of the 2019 Excellence in Graphic Literature (EGL) Awards were announced on Saturday, June 1, at a ceremony held during Denver Pop Culture Con. Any book-length works published during 2018, regardless of publisher size, were eligible for the awards, which are judged by a panel of experts.

The EGL Awards were developed by Pop Culture Classroom as a way to celebrate the best in both fiction and nonfiction graphic novels, as well as honor the creators, publishers, and educators who use graphic literature in their classrooms to inspire a love of learning. One of the goals of the EGL Awards is to help educators and librarians identify the best graphic novels to bring into their diverse classroom settings, as well as drive growth within the industry in those areas.

The full list of this year’s winners, as tweeted out by Geoff Gerber, are as follows:

  • 2019 Book of the Year: Berlin by Jason Lutes (Drawn & Quarterly)
