The graphic novel Berlin by Jason Lutes is perhaps the heaviest book I’ve ever read, and we’re not even talking about the content. Its physical weight takes some getting used to in terms of how you grip it and balance it in bed. Berlin is such a stunning literary and artistic achievement that I have been taking my time savouring every page, every detailed panel and only reading/looking at a few pages a night. Lutes doesn’t draw a graphic novel the way I would, but I thoroughly appreciate his way. A book on the fall of the Weimar Republic is more relevant than ever.
