
The internet will tell you it's National Read a Book Day. Believe everything you read on the internet, folks.
OK, we don't mean that. But it's never a bad idea to pick up a book and exercise your brain. This celebration is a good excuse to point you in the direction of a few Vermont authors whose books have buzz.
The Vermont College of Fine Arts has since 2014 honored the state's best literary work with the Vermont Book Award. Here's a list of the 2019 finalists:

- "The Animal One Thousand Miles Long: Seven Lengths of Vermont and Other Adventures," Leath Tonino (Creative Nonfiction).
- "Drunk in the Woods," Tony Whedon (Creative Nonfiction).
- "H&G," Anna Maria Hong (Fiction).
- "Berlin," Jason Lutes (Fiction).
- "The Great Believers," Rebecca Makkai (Fiction).
- "Box," Sue Burton (Poetry).
- "My Bishop and Other Poems," Michael Collier (Poetry).
- "Age of Glass," Anna Maria Hong (Poetry).
You'll need to get reading if you want plow through all the finalists before Nov. 9, when they announce the winner. (…)
