“Got a kid, a sports fan or a culture lover to buy for? Try these books” / The Star / Deborah Dundas / December 6, 2019

Books make great gifts, but it can be tricky to pick out the perfect read. Last week, we had you covered with novels and nonfiction; this week we’ve got the kids on your list, sports fans and those who might be interested in a quirky read.

For culture vultures

Making Comics, Lynda Barry (Drawn & Quarterly, $25.95): Who wouldn’t like to learn to make comics from a genius? In this eccentric, entertaining — and very enlightening — volume, “Professor Skeletor” shares her comics-making exercises. Even if you think you can’t draw, you can. It’s also packed with tips on writing; you’ll be producing your own work before you’ve even finished the book.
